  • European Union tightened up bank lending rules. The new rules called CRD-4 ( Capital requirement directives) are similar to the Basel III rules.

  • Election commission  announced that it is planning to issue driving license type plastic voert cards . New voter cards with color photos will be first issued in North eastern states Assam and Nagaland.
  • The Govt. of India approved the project for National Optic Fibre Network (NOFN) connecting 250000 Gram panchayats in the country through Optical cable. An special company named Bharat Broadband Network Limited has already been established for this purpose.
  • SC rejected Novartis (Swiss drug company) appeal to patent updated version of  cancer drug called Glivec.
  • Malkhamb declared as state sport by Madhya Pradesh.
  • Border Gavaskar Trophy 2013  India won 4-0  defeating Australia. R. ashwin given man of the series.
  • India is the largest recipient of  remittances in the world receiving 69 billion dollars according to  World bank’s migration and development report. India is followed by China (60 b) , The Philipines (24 b) and Nigeria and Egypt (21b each).
  • World bank has announced a four year plan for seven low income states of India to bring down poverty.  It has proposed to lend 3 to 5 billion dollars every year for a period of next 4 years. States are Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh , odisha Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
  • CCEA Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs decided to de control sugar . This will abolish the rule for sugar mills to sell sugar to the government at a disounted price for PDS and other regulations on mills selling sugar in open market.
  • India first to test super sonic missile from underwater plateform . No country of the world has tested this combination. The missile was Bramhos (a joint venture of India and Russia) and test fired from a submarine underwater.
  • India and Finland to cooperate in solar energy applications .
