What is your opinion about this budget.
It is very positive,
practical and growth oriented budget
with no hidden agenda or populist measures. The vision in the budget is clear. In
a short span of time, indirect tax reduction, will boost demand for consumer durables and automobiles
and improve growth prospects. At the same time Finance minister has shown his
commitment to contain fiscal deficit within targeted lines of below 4.8%. and
also setting a roadmap of further
reducing fiscal deficit in years to come.

RBI decided to keep pre 2005 noted out of circulation
as they are having less security features and are comparatively easy to counterfeit
(jaali/nakli). They can be easily recognized as year of printing was not
printed on the notes prior to 2005. As the new currency notes have added
security features, they would help in curbing the menace of fake currency.
At present, currency notes in denominations of Rs 5, Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 are issued. From April 1, 2014, the public will be required to approach banks for exchanging these notes. Banks will provide exchange facility for these notes until further communication," the RBI said.
From July 1, 2014, persons seeking exchange of more than 10 pieces of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will have to furnish proof of identity and residence to the bank.
What additional security features were introduced since 2005
1) weight and thickness of the paper increased 2) Colour of the security thread shall shift from green to blue when viewed from different angles. Width of thread will increase from 1.2 mm 3 mm. 3) Year of printing to be incorporated at the printing stage on the reverse ofthe bank note. 4)optically variable ink 5) intaglio (embossed) printing to be made more prominent.

What is vote on
account (interim budget) to be presented on 17th Feb
This year, a
vote-on-account would be presented instead of a full budget because general
elections will be conducted in May. Since the present government would not have
enough time in hand to vote for a full budget before the commencement of the
new financial year, a vote-on-account would ensure that sufficient funds are at
the disposal of the government to allow it to run the administration of the
country until a new government takes over. What is vote-on-account? >
Vote-on-account deals only with the expenditure side of the government's
budget. The government gives an estimate of funds it requires to meet the
expenditure that it incurs during the first three to four months of an election
financial year until a new government is in place.
Fiscal & revenue deficit
The difference between total revenue and total expenditure of the government is termed as fiscal deficit. It is an indication of the total borrowings needed by the government. While calculating the total revenue, borrowings are not included.
